Everyday Self-Care

By: Jorge Roque

As college students we usually get so lost in all our school work and extracurriculars that we forget to take care of ourselves. By the end of the quarter we have already burned ourselves out multiple times and we are looking forward to nothing more than just resting. It's important to fit in some self care in our daily lives to avoid burning ourselves out so frequently. Here are some simple things you can do to take care of yourself and well being!

  • Take in the view: Just setting your phone down and taking time to truly appreciate the amazing views around campus.

  • Cleaning your room: It maybe hard to get started but once you finish you'll be able to concentrate and it can be very therapeutic!

  • Taking a different route: If you're able to, walking to class to get that fresh air and nice views around campus.

  • Be selfish: Do something simply because it makes you happy.

  • Take a quick nap: Ten to twenty minutes can reduce your sleep debt and leave you ready for action.

  • Check in with yourself: Take time to actually process your emotions instead of ignoring them..

  • Ask for help: There is no need for you to suffer in silence. You have people that care for you.

  • Write out your thoughts: A quick write to declutter your mind of the things that have been bothering you.

  • Unplug for an hour. Switch everything to airplane mode and free yourself from the constant binges of social media and email.

Make sure to practice self care in whatever way it looks to you. Do the things that relax you and be unapologetic about it! You are the most important person in your life and it's about time you start treating yourself like it. Don’t forget to take care of yourself so you can do your best in the upcoming quarters and years, you got this!
